MDX Enters The Final
We played nervous. We played good defense. We struggled when we had the ball in our hands. West Carroll put us under enormous pressure, and they were able to bridge our defense with an unconverted try.
Halftime: Maryland Exiles 0 -- West Carroll 5
MDX Ups the Tempo
We turned up the tempo in the second half, and demonstrated to everyone in the stands that we had the ability to put the ball through the hands. When the ball reached TK Sullivan, there was no defense in front of him and he raced around the WC defense to score under the posts and convert his own try. West Carroll answered with their own converted try. but MDX came back with a blistering run by Vincent McHale that was converted by TK Sullivan. And MDX had a 14-12 lead.
MDX Fails To Close
We had the ball on a penalty with thirty seconds left on the clock. Instead of running straight with support to close out the clock and then boot ball into touch, we ran wide with the ball, turned it over, committed three penalties and failed to retreat ten on all of them, and West Carroll squirted through for the winning score. This game was lost with fitness and a lack of knowledge on how to close out a game.
We are Very Proud of You
You made the final. You got better with each game. You demonstrated character and class the entire weekend. It's OK to make mistakes as long as we learn from our mistakes.
