In the first period, we turned over possession after possession which led to four Gonzaga tries in rapid succession. As the clock wound down on the half however, the MDX team began to tie together strings of movement and combine phases of play. MDX began to look dangerous, and Juan Bautista was finally rewarded for the positive play. Halftime: Gonzaga 22 --- MDX 5
In the second period, MDX started to hammer away at the Gonzaga defense. However, even as they threatened to score, crucial errors led to two more Gonzaga scores. Finally the positive play was rewarded when the ball was sent wide to Edward Stahley. He was able to turn the corner and out kick the cover defense for a second MDX try.
Gonzaga answered with another try off a MDX miscue, but then the Maryland Exiles turned on the heat and the last fifteen minutes were all Maryland Exiles. Ben Tummonds powered his way over the Gonzaga line for a try. He was followed by Diego Gonzalez who dummied and slashed his way for try. Tummonds then bagged try #2 for him as time ended the game. Final: Gonzaga 37 ---- MDX 25
We were so very proud of you guys and the character and commitment you displayed on the field and to each other. We're also appreciative of AJ Conway, Tyler Lopes and Michael McHale who devoted their time to teaching and coaching the next generation of Exiles.
