The Maryland Exiles lose in the first game of the season
From the opening KO, the Maryland Exiles dominated possession, pushing the ball downfield and stretching the field. Jack Kelly was rewarded with an unconverted try. After that, the Exiles committed several turnovers that allowed Howard County to get on the front foot. They answered with a converted try.
Continued turnovers and inability of the forwards to provide quality ball to the backs ended up leaving us in a dark hole as Howard County scored three more tries. The Exiles climbed back into the game behind tries by Francisco de la Lama and Jabari Agyeman. However, Howard County was successful in answering with two more additional tries. Reed stiles found his way through the defense for the final score of the day that was successfully converted by junior kayembe.
The Exiles struggled with discipline in the tackle area on defense and supporting ball carriers on offense. The team leaves Columbia a little banged up with Center Morgan White and Wing junior kayembe leaving the field. White needed four stitches for a cut in his hairline, while Kayembe twisted his ankle. Both should be back in the lineup when the Exiles hope to get back to their winning ways next weekend at home against Baltimore.
