Gregory the Great traveled down from Scranton, Pa and entertained us with some bagpipe music as they prepared for the match. They came out strong pressuring the Exiles on the opening kick off and scoring within the first 30 seconds. Several penalties for getting hands in the ruck allowed Gregory to keep the ball on our side of the field in the early minutes. An electrifying run by Pierre Marcandella pulled the Exiles within 2 and the the momentum began to shift. The Exiles finished the first half strongly getting another score from Nicholas Bernhardt-Lanier which Nate Turak was able to convert to leave the Exiles ahead 12-7.
The second half was very physical as the anthracite coal crackers from Scranton got two yellow cards for high hits. Nate Turak had to leave the game with a split lip but not before kicking a penalty kick for three more points. Five minutes later, several sustained attacks resulted in Lamine Camara, playing in his first rugby match, breaking away for 5. The game then became a battle for possession with the Exiles liberally substituting players to get some important game play experience. Gregory the Great would not go down in defeat easily, scoring a late try but the Exiles responded with a quick pick and go by George Fournanarkis who converted his own try at the final whistle. An entertaining game to watch as Exiles prevail 27-14.
