Following a 3 hour clinic at Lycee Rocambeau conducted by the New Zealand All-Blacks Youth coach; the Exiles traveled to West Potomac High School to play two friendlies. The first was against Eleanor Roosevelt High School who competes in the Metro Area Varsity Rugby Conference Division 2.
The Exiles had 10 players making their debut with the club including 5 who were first time players: Rodloy Pierre & Andronel Jacques both originally from Haiti. Joe Murray who had just completed his 2nd practice at the clinic, Jake Stern of Sherwood and Matt Patkus from Walter Johnson. Charlie Martel a 9th grader from Washington DC, Sebastian Sorrondeguy of Uruguay, Max Cohen a transfer from Georgia, Sam Kreutzer who played in the Philippines and young Pierre Marcandella were new to the Exiles but not to rugby.
Head Coach Jean-Louis Moures encouraged the forwards to play as a pack and challenge Roosevelt defensively. While inserting powerful Oliver Clowes at the inside center position. The balanced attack resulted in two trys by the forwards and four by the backline - of course none of these trys were accomplished by one player alone. They often came due to a nice outlet pass or sustained pack rushes. The lone Roosevelt try was after a penalty when our pack did not rush the runner after a quick toe tap. Rodloy Jacques had some nice pack runs, he just needs to learn to lower his boom to gain more leverage.
Oliver Clowes - 2 trys
