Exiles Pressure Puts them in winning form

The Exiles beat at Saint Patrick's fighting Irish from Ottawa Canada 27-14. The score could have been more substantial as the Exiles only converted 1 of 5 trys and also missed a penalty kick. Head coach Jean-Louis conducted the first of several experiments during the tourney. Team captain Aiden Perrenoud was shifted from number 8 to fullback which gave young Charlie Martel a chance to handle the back of the scrum.Winger Noah Lucas opened up the scoring with a nifty try 7 minutes into the match followed by a powerful run by loosehead prop Adam Tounkara with five minutes to go. A lapse in concentration allowed Saint Pats to score as time expired and with a conversion; the halftime score stood at 10-7.

Due to the tournaments permissive substitution rules, seven players were subbed on at half time. Mad scientist Moures continued with is experiments - George Founarakis gave Ran Hunt a spell at scrum half and hooker Max Engel made his debut as a fly half for Nathaniel Turak. First year player Leo Simon was also given a chance to show what he could do as a flanker. Jusst 2 minutes into the second half, Adam Tounkara scored his second of three trys for the match. Another rambling run where he stiff armed through the Canadians to the goal line. Charlie Martel scored a try which Saint Pats immediately answered with a converted try of their own making the score 20-14 with 7 minutes left in the game. Scrum half George Founarakis kept the attack moving forward and with 2 minutes left in the match Tounkara sealed the game with a try which Founarkis quickly converted. All told, 25 Exiles got into this game since there was no limit on the number of subs. A good way to end the day.

On a positive note, the number of penalties was reduced but there were again a number of offsides on the lineout and various rucking penalties.

The Exiles appeared to be unclear on how to line up on a 22 meter drop; having the whole pack at the 22 meter line. Lapses in concentration and poor tackling led to both of the opponents trys. Coach Moures had instructed the team to move the ball to the center of the pitch - but a number of movements went to the touchline and Saint Pat's tacklers pushed the runner out resulting in a change of possession on the lineouts. Saint Pats was also able to win more loose balls than the Exiles. I'm sure others have comments but this is what I gleaned from my notes. Overall a positive result but several areas that we can continue to improve on.
